Alternative School Programs

Juneau-Douglas High School offers specific programs to enhance the learning experience for each and every student.

AVID - The AVID program teaches the student how to study, read for content, take notes, and manage their time.  Students participate in collaborative study groups or tutorials led by tutors who use skillful questioning to bring students to a higher level of understanding.

CARES - This is an after-school credit recovery program for all high school students who are credit deficient for graduation.

CHOICE (Choosing Healthy Options in Cooperative Education) - is available to 9th - 11th grade students in need of extra support for graduation.  An application must be submitted.  Contact your counselor to discuss your options and/or get an application.  A key element to the program is the blocking of year-long core academic classes two periods at a time.  Class size is small and focuses on team building and healthy decision-making.
