Jenny Strumfeld is a 7th/8th grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher for Stikine House, and this is her first year at Dzantiki’ Heeni Middle School. She is really excited about this new opportunity to learn and grow with a fabulous team of skillful educators. Jenny is not new to teaching. She earned her MAT from the University of Alaska, Southeast in 1995. Since then she has had a variety of experiences that have nurtured her as an educator. In her early teaching years she worked at the Gustavus School, Juneau-Douglas High School, and the American School in Guadalajara, Mexico, before taking time off to raise her young children. When she was ready to come back to work, she and her husband decided to take their family abroad. They spent two years teaching in Managua, Nicaragua, before moving to Quito, Ecuador where they taught at 9,350 feet for three years. Feeling filled from their experiences abroad, she and her husband took jobs at the Juneau Community Charter School.

In addition to teaching in the classroom, Jenny finds joy in practicing and sharing her love of yoga and movement. She is always seeking out creative ways to incorporate these practices into her school lessons. Jenny values the expertise of the Juneau community and invites mentors into her classroom.
