School to Apprenticeship

Operative Plasterers and Cement Masons Local 867 will be recruiting for its 2007 apprenticeship classes in March.  Local 867 has two apprenticeship programs, one for plasterers and one for cement masons (or finishers).  Applications will be available March 5 and must be returned by March 23.

Applications may still be submitted after March 23rd.  Applications are available in the Career Center.

 These are 4000 hour OJT programs.  In addition to the OJT, apprentices attend class training for 144 hours per year (288 total).  The paid OJT starts at approximately $19 an hour (60% of journeyman) with progressive raises after every 1000 hours to the full journey rate of approx $31.50.  Full benefits from start of apprenticeship.

 Minimum Qualifications - 18, HS Diploma or GED, one year Alaska residency, Ak Driver's License, Physically fit (this work is physically demanding) and able to perform all aspects of the trade's work, Drug Free

Required documents - Birth Certificate, HS transcript or GED scores, Alaska Driver's License

Recommended - Training Certificates, Resume, Letters of Reference



Sheet Metal Workers Local 23

Sheet Metal Workers fabricate and install ductwork and specialty items, primarily for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning or air handling systems. 

The minimum qualifications to apply are:

ϖ      Must be at least 18 years old (provide copy of birth certificate).

ϖ      Shall possess a high school diploma or certified G.E.D. equivalency (provide copy)(H.S transcripts for potential extra credit).

ϖ      Must be an Alaskan resident (provide documentation).

ϖ      Must possess a valid Alaska driver’s license. (provide copy)

ϖ      Shall be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the occupation without endangering the health and safety of themselves and or fellow workers.

ϖ      DD-214 (veterans)

This is an 8000-hour OJT program with 240 hours of class training per year for four years.  Starting pay is approximately $19.17 per hour (Apprentice) with incremental raises after every 1000 hours of OJT toward the journeyman rate of $38.34 per hour  (plus benefits, plus negotiated annual raises).
